epT.I.P.S.® LoRetention
The "Pearl Effect" – Maximum recovery and reproducibility with epT.I.P.S. LoRetention and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. LoRetention – No sample loss, reduced costs, improved results.
epT.I.P.S. LoRetention pipette tips and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. LoRetention filter tips are particularly well-suited for applications with samples that contain detergents. Detergents or detergent containing liquids lower the liquid’s surface tension. This leads to a phenomenon called “wetting”: Residual liquid sticks to the tip wall and cannot be recovered. The invisible film left behind in standard tips shows a significantly high amount of valuable sample material, which becomes discarded together with the tip.
Particularly when it comes to sensitive PCR and real-time PCR applications, low retention surfaces can increase the reproducibility and significantly reduce the loss of expensive reagents.
The low retention property of epT.I.P.S. LoRetention pipette tips and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. LoRetention filter tips is generated by an ultrahydrophobic, extremely homogeneous surface. It is achieved through an innovative treatment at the molecular level – the “Pearl Effect” Technology. All pipette tips are uncoated, free of additives and do not leach into the sample. Liquids containing detergents simply roll off, so that practically no liquid remains in the tip. These outstanding material properties guarantee maximum sample recovery for cost saving and improved reproducibility.
Maximum reproducibility with epT.I.P.S. LoRetention and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S LoRetention
In particular with sensitive PCR and real-time PCR applications low retention surfaces can increase reproducibility and notably reduce the loss of expensive reagents – depending on the reagent solution, this can be by up to 5 %!
Versatile application
epT.I.P.S. LoRetention pipette tips are ideally suited for all applications with samples that contain detergents:
PCR and real-time PCR preparation of enzyme solutions and master mixes
Isolation, purification and denaturation of proteins
Restriction digestions and ligations
Pipetting DNA ladders during gel electrophoresis
Quality and purity is an Eppendorf standard.
It goes without saying that the new epT.I.P.S. LoRetention and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. LoRetention pipette tips have all the valued properties of the proven Eppendorf epT.I.P.S.. They are produced in high-precision manufacturing processes, can be autoclaved and are extremely resistant to chemicals. This Eppendorf quality is also available in the PCR clean (free of human DNA, DNase, RNase, and PCR inhibitors) purity grade. For maximum contamination protection, epT.I.P.S. LoRetention pipette tips are also available as ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S..

In our Application Notes 218 and 192 you find detailed results on the comparison of residual liquid from epT.I.P.S. LoRetention with standard epT.I.P.S. pipette tips and low retention tips of other manufacturers and the comparison of resistance of the low retention property when subjected to solvents or autoclaving. Both results showed best performance of epT.I.P.S. LoRetention with lowest residual liquid and smallest standard deviation.

Applications
Cell culture (media)
Genomics: PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR and all other types of PCR
All products certified with "PCR clean" are tested free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors. The following applies from our point of view: Where no human DNA is detected, there can also be no RNA, which is considerably more unstable.
For molecular-biological requirements Eppendorf offers a new standard for uniform purity specifications. All consumables marked with the "Certified PCR Clean” label are guaranteed free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors.
Due to the modularization of purity grades, some products are labeled with more than one purity grade symbol. For example, the epDualfilter T.I.P.S. has the double seal "PCR clean "+ "Sterile" and the UVette the double seal "PCR clean" + "Protein-free" on the packing. The certification remains unaffected by the modularization.
Yes, the batch-specific purity grades can be downloaded at our certificates homepage.
Yes, if no batch attachment is required for the application, products of the old and new modular purity grades can be used, as their specifications are the same.
These tips are specially suited for pipetting solutions containing detergents, such
as PCR master mixes, enzyme solutions and many buffers. The LoRetention tips are characterised by significantly improved flow performance, thus achieving more economical use of expensive reagents, while valuable sample material is used effectively. Furthermore, reproducibility is improved, since wetting of the tip is dependent on both user and handling (for example: pipetting speed) and can therefore vary considerably.
The LoRetention tips are made from polypropylene, as are standard tips, and they are resistant to a
number of organic solvents. Further information regarding chemical resistance properties of pipette tips can be found in the User Guide no. 23: Chemical Stability of Consumables.
The lids of the LoRetention racks and reloads have a transparent lid. Standard tips have a blue lid. A reusable LoRetention adhesive sticker is placed on the lid. This sticker also features “LoRetention” writing on the reverse side. This way previously purchased epT.I.P.S. boxes can be
labeled. When the box is open, the writing “LoRetention” will thus be easily readable.
Yes. Foam formation is rarely observed when LoRetention tips are used. This facilitates the handling
of these solutions and increases reproducibility.
